Avşar Gürdal Appointed President of Mastercard Eastern Europe
Avşar Gürdal, who has held senior positions at Mastercard since 2015, will take on the role of President of Mastercard Eastern Europe.
Previously serving as General Manager of Mastercard Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Gürdal will leverage his regional experience to lead Mastercard across 12 countries in Eastern Europe.
 
Mastercard, one of the world’s leading companies in payment technologies, has announced a senior-level appointment in its Eastern Europe region. Avşar Gürdal, who previously served as General Manager of Mastercard Türkiye and Azerbaijan and subsequently as Senior Vice President responsible for Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions, Risk and Analytics for Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA), will assume the role of President of Mastercard Eastern Europe effective September 1.
In his new role, Gürdal will be responsible for shaping and executing Mastercard’s business strategy in Eastern Europe, implementing regional growth priorities, strengthening customer and business partnerships, and expanding the adoption of innovative solutions across the payment technology ecosystem.
During his tenure as General Manager of Mastercard Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Gürdal contributed to the implementation of the company’s strategic priorities in both markets, the wider adoption of digital payment solutions, and the development of the cashless payments ecosystem in Azerbaijan. Drawing on the experience he has gained through various leadership roles at Mastercard, Gürdal will aim to further advance the company’s growth journey across the dynamic and rapidly evolving markets of Eastern Europe.
 
Who is Avşar Gürdal?
Avşar Gürdal began his career at Unilever and, after working at PRG and Value Partners, joined Mastercard Advisors in 2015. In 2016, Gürdal was appointed Director of Customer Relationship Management at Mastercard, and in 2019, he took on the role of Vice President of Mastercard Türkiye. In 2022, he was appointed General Manager of Mastercard Türkiye and Azerbaijan, after which he served as Senior Vice President responsible for Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions and Analytics for Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA).
Gürdal holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boğaziçi University and an MBA from Koç University.
