UN Committee to mull situation with migrant workers in Azerbaijan
The UN Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW) will hold its upcoming session from September 27 to October 8, during which it will review the situation with migrant workers in Azerbaijan, Report informs referring to the CMW.
Among the possible issues to be discussed: the impact of COVID-19 on migrant workers and their families as well as their contribution to essential sectors, including health, during the pandemic; Azerbaijan’s border management system and the criminalization of irregular border crossings; measures to combat human trafficking and the plight of migrant workers and their families who are undocumented or in an irregular situation.
The session on Azerbaijan will be held on October 4-5. At the upcoming session of the CMW on September 27-28, similar issues regarding Rwanda will be considered.
The Committee will also host an interactive online panel discussion with States representatives, national human rights institutions, civil society, and academia on October 7. The event will be held online, and broadcast live on UN Web TV.
