Supporting students from disadvantaged families in their higher education

• Higher education opportunities for up to100 children from vulnerable families every year; • Contribution to the development of talented youth; • Support for communities in building their sustainable future;

bp and its co-venturers in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Shah Deniz, and South Caucasus Pipeline projects – SOCAR, TPAO, PETRONAS, MOL, LUKOIL, NICO, Equinor, INPEX, ExxonMobil, SGC, ITOCHU, ONGC, TOTAL, Eni – today celebrated the success of 94 newly-admitted university students from disadvantaged families. These are the participants in the “Build your Future” project  - an initiative bp and its co-venturers have been supporting for four years.

The project is part of bp’s and its co-venturers’ commitment to helping the social development of neighbouringcommunities through enhancing their skills and capabilities. It aims to support young people from vulnerable families in their preparation for university admission. The participants include 11th-graders as well as high school graduates with disabilities or special needs.

The training programme includes two components - academic studies to help  preparations for university exams through tutorial classes, and social integration through various activities and external engagement.

To date, the project has benefited more than 300 disadvantaged families  representing the communities from   the Garadagh, Kurdamir, Ujar, Agdash, Yevlakh and Hajigabul districts.

In total, some 282young talented people out of 315 participants in the four phases – 90%, have been successful meeting the requirements of the

higher school entrance exams and becoming students at various universities. Out of 108 participants in this year’s programme 94 have been successful with their entrance exams scores ranging from 225 to 651.

Based on the results and overall success of this initiative, bp and its co-venturers have decided to continue the project into the next year.

Talking about the success of the participants in this year’s programme, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp’s Vice president Middle East and Caspian, Communications and Advocacy, said: “It has become a tradition for us to congratulate the successful participants in this educational project which impacts the lives of so many young people every year.  We hope based on today’s choice they will build their entire successful future.  While the path of knowledge and development has always been challenging, today it is even more challenging due to the unprecedented learning conditions at schools and universities.  We very much hope that the current difficult conditions will not in any way weaken the newly-admitted university students’ enthusiasm ortheir strong will to learn and make a brilliant career.”

The total value of the four phases of the project (through four years) is around 1,153,000 AZN with the duration of 12-15 months for each phase.
In 2020, the project was implemented by the “Build Your Future” LLC.
